Avenged Sevenfold, 'So Far Away'

Avenged Sevenfold have released the third single off of their 2010 album 'Nightmare.'

The track is a tribute to their former drummer, Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan, who died of drug intoxication in December 2009. It is the first song that lead guitarist/back vocalist Synyster Gates has completely written for Avenged Sevenfold.

Despite their heavy metal background, Avenged Sevenfold show a softer side in 'So Far Away,' relying heavily on the acoustic guitar in the beginning of the song. However, their energy builds in the second half of the track, leading up to the plugged-in sound that their fans so adore.

In mourning "The Rev," Gates is bitter and retrospective: "Plans of what our futures hold / foolish lies of growing old / It seems we're so invincible / The truth is so cold."

The refrain reflects the sorrow that the band members feel, questioning, "How do I live without the ones I love?" But life keeps moving: "Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned / Place and time always on my mind / I have so much to say and you're so far away."
