The Maine Band

The Maine BandHistory

The Maine was founded in Phoenix, Arizona in 2007 while most of the band members were still attending high school. The Maine features singer John Cornelius O'Callaghan V, guitarists Jonathan Franklin Trotter, popularly known as "Kennedy Brock" and Jared Monaco, bassist Garrett Daniel Nickelsen, and drummer Pat "Ratboy" Kirch. O'Callaghan was asked to join the group by his best friend who happened to be the drummer's brother. No one knew he could sing so well until the first band rehearsal. The band gets their name from one of their biggest influences, Ivory. The band has a song called "Coast of Maine," hence "The Maine."

After gathering a huge following through websites such as MySpace, The Maine played their first show in front of over 600 fans, acquired solely through word of mouth and MySpace. The Maine's live performances caught the eye of Fearless Records and booking agent Matt Galle. On May 8, 2007, the band released a digital EP called Stay Up, Get Down. Among the songs on the EP are "Daisy" and "Count 'Em One, Two, Three," which was later re-recorded for their first full-length album, Can't Stop, Won't Stop.

The Maine signed to Fearless Records and released a five-song concept EP, The Way We Talk (produced by Matt Grabe[1]), in 2007. The band released their debut album, Can't Stop, Won't Stop (produced by Matt Squire[2]), in the summer of 2008 as they left for tour with Good Charlotte and Boys Like Girls. In 2009, they performed on the Vans Warped Tour.

They released a holiday EP in December 2008 titled ...And A Happy New Year (produced by Matt Grabe[3]); it included a cover of Wham!'s song "Last Christmas" and three original songs. The Maine released a deluxe version of their debut album, Can't Stop, Won't Stop, along with a digital documentary called In Person in July 2009.

On May 3, The Maine released their first single, "Inside Of You," from their July 2010 album Black & White (produced by Howard Benson[4]). On May 18, they released their second single, "Growing Up."

The Maine currently has a free EP out as a way of giving back to the fans. It can be found on daytrotter.com and is called Daytrotter Session-EP. In this EP they have redone four of the songs off of Black & White without editing them. John was a virgin until he turned 21.
